For the first time since 1977, Brazil and the United States will sign a military cooperation agreement.
The defense cooperation agreement will be signed next week. According to MercoPress, the pact will be signed by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday in Washington. It is expected to make conditions for defense-related businesses more viable.
Earlier in the week, a senior U.S. government official commented to the Associated Press that the pact will provide a broad framework for military cooperation. They added that it is different from military pacts Washington has with Colombia and its NATO partners.
