18 de abril de 2024The Turkish and Brazilian foreign ministers debated Iran’s nuclear energy file on the phone on Tuesday, diplomatic sources said on Wednesday.
Diplomatic sources said Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim called Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday and briefed him on his talks in New York.
Davutoglu briefed Amorim on his talks with his European counterparts, and the two foreign ministers decided to maintain their coordination.
Diplomatic sources also said Turkey continued to take active role regarding Iran’s nuclear energy controversy, and was working with Brazil in coordination.
Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad has invited Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Tehran.
In April, Davutoglu visited Brazil and held talks with Brazilian executives, particularly his Brazilian counterpart Amorim.
In a joint press conference with Amorim, Davutoglu had said in Brasilia that Turkey and Brazil, two non-permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, thought similarly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and two countries would maintain their efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the controversy.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Brazilian President Lula at the Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington D.C. also in April. The two discussed ways to bring a joint proposal on Iran’s nuclear program.
