The latest estimates by the Ministry of Finance for 2011 inflation,
as measured by the Broad Consumer Price Index (“IPCA”), is that it will
come in just below the upper ceiling of the government’s target at 6.4%.
The government’s inflation target was 4.5%, plus or minus two
percentage points.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Planning, in its 2012 budget message to
Congress that was emitted at the end of November, saw 2011 inflation at
6.62%.
Finally, market estimates for 2011 inflation, according to the weekly Focus survey of financial institutions, is 6.5%.
