SAO PAULO, BRAZIL ¯ On the same day National Beef Packing Co. announced itwould reduce cattle slaughter to stem \”unprecedented losses,\” JBS S.A.announced Dec. 12 that it, too, was cutting production at its U.S. plantslocated in Greeley, Colo.; Grand Island, Neb.; Hyrum, Utah; and Dumas,Texas, citing poor market conditions, according to a Bloomberg report.
Starting next week, hours at all four JBS plants will be reduced. Weekly slaughter at the plants will be reduced by 15,000 head, according to the processor. And the plants will operate only three to five days a week in the weeks to come, down from six days a week.
