18 de abril de 2024The oil field known as Campo Peregrino in the Campos Basin off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro is being explored by the Norwegian firm, Statoil, which just auctioned off 40% of the area. The winning tender offer was by the Chinese state-run oil firm, Sinochem Corporation Sinopec, which paid $3.07 billion for the stake.
Production at Campo Peregrino, located 85 kilometers off the coast at a depth of around 100 meters, is expected to begin next year (2011).
Spokespersons for Statoil declared that Brazil remains a key part of its international strategy and that it intends to fulfill contractual obligations in the Campo Peregrino field. As for Sinochem, it is 100% owned by the Chinese government, has been in existence since 1950 and in 2009 had gross revenue of $36 billion, with profits of $900 million.
