Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff ranked third in a list of the world’s most powerful women released on Wednesday by U.S. business magazine Forbes.
Rousseff was surpassed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel who topped the list and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The magazine said Rousseff’s embrace of a more pragmatic and capitalist approach after appointed as Brazil’s minister of energy and her current confrontation with a rebellious National Congress threatening Brazil’s economy merit her third place in the list.
Rousseff ranked 95th in the list when she was running for office last year, and climbed to the 16th position after her victory in November.
