Henrique Meirelles plans to stand down as Brazilian central bank president to run for a post in the senate, representing his home state of Goias, O Estado de S. Paulo reported, without saying where it got the information.
Meirelles, a member of the Democratic Movement Party known as PMDB, spoke to his family over the weekend to discuss the possibility of running for public office, the newspaper said. He may also consider running for vice president on the ticket of Cabinet Chief Dilma Rousseff, Estado said.
He told the newspaper he will make the decision on whether to leave the central bank over the next few days.
Meirelles told reporters on March 25 he planned to consider his political decision over the weekend.
