18 de fevereiro de 2010The governor of Brazil’s capital city has been placed under provisional arrest while corruption allegations are investigated.
Gov. Jose Roberto Arruda was detained Thursday after a witness in a corruption investigation accused the governor of trying to bribe him.
Arruda already was under a cloud after hidden police cameras captured him apparently accepting bundles of money. The videos were uploaded to the Internet, creating an uproar.
The scandal forced the 57-year-old politician out of contention for re-election and tarnished his national opposition party.
Arruda is being held at federal police offices in Brasilia that have special cells for people with a university-level education.
