Brazil’s oil and gas giant Petrobras and the Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol E.P.) announced on Tuesday a new oil discovery in Angolan waters.
According to Petrobras, the discovery was made through well Manganes-01, located in block 18/06, in deep waters, 200 kilometers away from the country’s capital city, Luanda.
The company informed that the Manganes-01 well was drilled at a depth of 1,500 meters from the waterline, and proved the existence of a reservoir of excellent quality in an 82-meter column in sandy Miocene reservoirs.
In testing operations, oil of some 20 degrees API was produced at high flows. According to the company, the oil has an excellent productivity index.
The Sociedade de Combustiveis de Angola is the concessionaire of block 18/06. Petrobras is the block’s operator, and holds 30 percent stakes of the business; Sonangol Sinopec International Limited (SSI) holds 40 percent; Sonangol P&P holds 20 percent; Geminas holds 5 percent; and Falcon Oil holds the remaining 5 percent of the stakes.
It was the second discovery in Angolan waters made by Petrobrasin less than a week on Nov. 11, the company announced that oil had been found in the Cabaca orte-1 well, located in block 15/06, in deep waters 350 kilometers away from Luanda. Petrobras owns 5 percent stakes on the block.
