The economic solidity of Peru and Brazil is “envy” of rich countries, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Friday.
“Today, many rich countries envy the economy solidity we have,” Lula said after meeting with his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia.
“Let’s look at the map of Brazil and Peru: it is like if we were holding hands. That is how God made our continent.”
Lula also stressed the importance of his meeting with Garcia and said it “creates the base of strong ties between the two nations, and it will serve as an example for the ties we develop with other countries.”
He also urged more active participation of Garcia in the Union of South American Nations meetings in order to achieve the aim of this regional bloc to build a stronger region.
Garcia said the integration between Peru and Brazil in sectors like commerce and infrastructure will lead to a high level of social welfare and justice for their peoples.
During their meeting, Garcia and Lula signed agreements which will strengthen bilateral ties on border, energy, trade and infrastructure integration.
