The minister of Tourism, Pedro Novais, a federal deputy in the PMDB
from the state of Maranhão, accompanied by vice president Michel Temer
(also a member of the PMDB), met with president Dilma Rousseff yesterday
afternoon (Wednesday, September 14) at the Palacio do Planalto and
submitted his resignation. The meeting lasted around 15 minutes. Shortly
after that meeting, the Ministry of Tourism issued a declaration
confirming the resignation of Novais who faces charges of improper use
of public funds.
According to the head of the Office of Social Communication, Helena
Chagas, president Dilma Rousseff will announce a substitute very soon.
Note: at almost midnight last night it was announced that the new
minister of Tourism will be deputy Gastão Vieira. Like Novais, he is in
the PMDB and from Maranhão.
