18 de abril de 2024Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez postponed their quarterly meeting until late October due to scheduling conflicts, an official source said on Wednesday.
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday night, the two leaders decided to hold the meeting on Oct. 29-30 in Caracas, said the source from the Brazilian president’s office.
It is the second time that the meeting has been postponed, said the source.
The meeting should have been held on Sept. 28 on the Island of Margarita, Venezuela, after the Second Africa-South America Summit.
But it was postponed to Oct. 17-18 due to agenda problems of both presidents. And for the same reason, the meeting was adjourned again until late October, according to the source.
During their meeting, the two leaders will sign an agreement on the joint operation of the Abreu e Lima refinery, which is located in Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco.
They are also expected to discuss the accession of Venezuela to the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), which groups Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
